Making Headlines
I woke up today to read about elements as the headline story in Fitness Business News. I normally learn of new elements pieces from out team, who comb the headlines, however I learned of this piece by reading several congradulatory emails from colegues. It is always nice to receive recognition from peers, for me it is a validation of the hard work of our team.
I really am a firm believer in staff motivation - so much so that almost 2 full days (of a four day training school) are spent on recruiting, challenging, and motivating the best team members. We continue to deliver great member experiences at our clubs, because of the value we place into our staff. This is one of the secrets to our success.
I was on a call with one of our club owners, Brenda Perkins, from Exeter NH today. Brenda is a very professional operator, who has a gift for motivating and leading. Although this is her first time in the fitness industry, she is operating one of the highest quality clubs, parallel to any of the major players in the industry. She and I were speaking about the importance of small, simple gestures.. telling a staff member that they did a great job, or that they really are making a positive impact - motivation and emotional connection have a profound impact on performance - seems like a simple concept, but trust me, it is not done nearly as often as it should be.
Recognition leads to inspiration… which leads to success…. which hopefully will lead to more recognition!
